Foster Youth Services (FYS)
Foster Youth Services (FYS) supports the academic success of students who are current or former foster youth and other eligible populations. Students must be currently enrolled in courses at College of the Desert and provide official documentation. Eligible students include current foster youth, former foster youth, students in guardianship or kinship care, justice-impacted students from juvenile detention, and students that are no older than 26 years of age at the beginning of the academic year in which they first enroll in the program. FYS offers priority registration, enrollment assistance, educational planning, transfer application support, and guidance with completing the FAFSA/CADAA and Chafee Grant. FYS also provides community resources and referrals to support student success. Foster Youth Services also supports the NextUP program which offers additional comprehensive support services to students who qualify. Students are encouraged to visit the Foster Youth Services Center (FYSC), located in the South Annex, room 2. The center features four computer workstations, a printer, a conference table for meetings and workshops, and a comfortable lounge area for studying. For additional information, visit the FYSC in South Annex, room 2, or call 760.776.7498.
