Spanish AA-T Degree

The Associate of Arts in Spanish for Transfer (AA-T) provides students with a strong foundation in the four basic language skills: listening comprehension, reading comprehension, speaking, and writing. The program also covers the civilization and cultures of Spain, Latin America, and the United States. This degree focuses on developing communicative competence and intercultural awareness. An AA-T in Spanish will allow students to improve their Spanish proficiency in speaking and writing, as well as learn about the culture, history, and arts of the Spanish-speaking world.

Spanish courses in this program align well with related fields such as liberal arts, language arts, and linguistics. They also complement majors like international relations, political science, business, education, and sociology. The AA-T prepares students for transfer to UC, CSU, and private colleges and universities. Students must meet both of the following requirements:

  1. Completion of 60 semester units that are eligible for transfer to the California State University, including:

    • Completion of Cal-GETC.

    • A minimum of 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis. All courses in the major or area of emphasis must be completed with a grade of "C" (or "P") or better.

  2. Obtainment of a minimum grade point average of 2.0.

There are no additional graduation requirements. Students should consult with a counselor when planning to complete the degree for more information on university admission and transfer requirements.
