Fitness Specialist Certificate of Achievement
The Fitness Specialist Certificate of Achievement is a comprehensive certification preparing students for success in personal training, group fitness, exercise leadership and a variety of other career opportunities in the fitness and health industry. The certificate's curriculum offers courses that include anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor learning, first aid, fitness assessment exercise program design, group fitness, nutrition and weight management. In addition, professionalism and exercise leadership principles addressing communication, learning styles, motivation and class engagement are included. These courses along with a kinesiology work experience opportunity prepare students to take an industry standard national certification exam in personal training, such as, National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA-CPT), National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM-CPT), American Council on Exercise (ACE-CPT) or a certification in group fitness with Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA).
Learning Outcomes
Upon satisfactory completion of this program students will be able to:
- Create effective and safe exercise programming based on observation, client assessment and risk stratification to improve fitness level of target population.
- Prepare students for career opportunities in the fitness industry such as fitness specialist, personal trainer, group fitness instructor, and fitness program director.
