Community Health Worker: Children and Families Certificate of Achievement

The Community Health Worker (CHW): Children and Families Certificate trains students to serve a critical role in the community by supporting mental and physical health for children and families. Students completing the certificate will be qualified to provide appropriate health education and information to help children and families get the mental and physical healthcare they need. Students will be equipped with a community resource file and strategies to provide support and guidance for children and families. They will also be trained to perform basic health care procedures and to advocate for health needs of their clients.

Learning Outcomes

Upon satisfactory completion of this program students will be able to:

  1. Apply culturally competent care by recognizing the health needs of diverse populations and utilizing strategies that promote equity and inclusion in health and social service settings.
  2. Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills by building trust, providing social support, and educating individuals and communities in ways that enhance health literacy and self-sufficiency.
  3. Coordinate and manage care through effective system navigation, referrals, and follow-up to ensure access to needed health and social services.
  4. Advocate for health equity by supporting community-led efforts to address social determinants of health and participating in policy advocacy initiatives.
  5. Provide basic health services and assessments that support community health needs, including screenings, first aid, and environmental assessments.
  6. Promote personal and community wellness through outreach, education, and empowerment strategies that address chronic disease prevention and health promotion.
