Foundations for Accessibility Certificate of Achievement

Foundations for Accessibility prepares students to effectively implement, assess and research applications of Assistive Technology (AT) and provides supplemental knowledge for general and special educators, related service personnel, adult service providers, and families or caregivers who need to apply assistive technology solutions within their school, work, home or community setting. The Foundations for Accessibility Certificate offers students the ability to understand, prepare, and create accessible content to ensure that persons with disabilities receive equal access to content and when accommodations are necessary, along with use of assistive technology solutions to provide equity.

Learning Outcomes

Upon satisfactory completion of this program students will be able to:

  1. Identify the appropriate law that applies to an accessibility barrier.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of the application of Section 504, & Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, WACAG, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. (ADA).
  3. Describe what technology is covered in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
  4. Identify how to apply accessible guidelines to create and remediate documents to ensure accessibility.
  5. Demonstrate creating a new accessible document.
  6. Describe how creating accessible documents empowers persons with disabilities.
  7. Identify the appropriate assistive technology to support an individual's educational limitations.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of at least one assistive technology.
  9. Describe how assistive technology can support students with disabilities.
