Computer Information Systems AS Degree (transfer preparation)

The Associate of Science degree in Computer Information Systems prepares students to either pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Information and Systems Technology from California State University, San Bernardino or enter the workforce as an entry-level computer or network support technician.


The Information Systems and Technology (IST) program at California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a comprehensive undergraduate program designed to equip students with the technical skills and business acumen required for success in the rapidly evolving field of information technology. The program offers a range of courses covering topics such as database management, web development, networking, cybersecurity, and programming, among others. 


Computer support technicians provide technical assistance to computer users. They may answer questions or resolve computer problems for clients in person, or via telephone or electronically. They may provide assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, word processing, electronic mail, and operating systems. Computer network technicians analyze, test, troubleshoot, and evaluate existing network systems, such as local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet systems or a segment of a network system. 

Learning Outcomes

Upon satisfactory completion of this program students will be able to:

  1. Exhibit basic understanding of information technology and information systems challenges and opportunities from a multi-faceted perspective of hardware, software, databases, telecommunications, people, and procedures.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to locate, critically evaluate and solve business problems with technology solutions using qualitative and quantitative information.
  3. Demonstrate a fundamental ability to identify and analyze user needs in the selection, creation, evaluation and administration of computer-based systems.
  4. Prepare students for transfer into a four-year institution.
