Organization of the College
The Board of Trustees has ultimate responsibility for the integrity, quality, and fiscal stability of the District.
The chief administrator of the District is the Superintendent/President, who is also the chief administrative officer of the College. The Superintendent/President serves as the Secretary to the Board of Trustees.
The Vice President of Instruction is the chief academic officer of the College and is responsible for academic schools, the COD Libraries, instructional support services, career and technical education, the Tutoring and Academic Skills Center, and off-campus programs. College of the Desert has five schools: Applied Sciences and Business, Social Sciences and Arts, Communication and Humanities, Health Sciences and Education, and Mathematics and Sciences. Each school is under the supervision of a dean, who is responsible for coordinating and leading the departments within that school. Career programs are coordinated with cooperation from advisory committees consisting of representatives from business and industry sector partners.
The Vice President of Student Services is the chief student services officer of the College responsible for Counseling and Counseling services, student enrollment services including Admissions and Records and Financial Aid, Disabled Students Programs and Services, International Education Program, Veterans Services, Student Health and Wellness, Student Support Programs and Services, Student Life, Student Leadership, student due process and discipline, and EDGE and plEDGE Programs.
The Vice President of Administrative Services functions as the chief financial officer of the College. In addition to budget development and oversight, Administrative Services is responsible for Fiscal Services, Maintenance and Operations, Campus Safety and Emergency Preparedness, Information Technology, Auxiliary Services, Contracts and Purchasing, Bond Program and Facilities Planning, and Institutional Grants.
The Vice President of Human Resources and Employee Relations is responsible for management and operation of all human resources and employee relations functions of the College, including developing and recommending policies, goals, and objectives for human resources. The Vice President of Human Resources and Employee Relations is also responsible for collective bargaining and contract administration, classification and compensation, diversity and EEO compliance, benefits, retirement, risk management, and Title IX. The office serves as the single District office responsible for receiving all unlawful discrimination complaints.
