Maximum Unit Load
A typical course load during the Fall and Spring semesters is 12 to 17 units. Students who work full-time are encouraged to take fewer units. Students with advanced standing and a minimum 2.0 GPA ("C" average) may enroll in up to 19 units.
During the Summer terms, students usually take two classes, with a maximum of 7 units.
During the Winter terms, students usually take one class, with a maximum of 7 units.
Students who want to take more units than these limits allow must request approval. To do this, students should first meet with a counselor in the Counseling Center to discuss the request and complete a Request to Add Class form. After completing the form, students must meet with the Dean of Counseling or designated representative to review their academic history, explain the reason for the overload, and receive final approval.
